Joann Herr, 84, of Watertown, SD and formerly of Webster, SD passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Edgewood Memory Care in Watertown, SD. Mass Of Christian Burial (all friends and family welcome) will be 2 P.M. Friday September 25, 2020 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Cemetery. Walk through visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Joanne Marie Wattier was born on April 14, 1936 to Lambert and Elda (Wockenfuss) Wattier at Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. She attended parochial school at St. Otto’s through eighth grade and graduated from Webster High School in 1954. On February 8, 1954, she married Arvid Herr at St. Otto’s Catholic Church. To this union four children were born: Nancy, Mike, Randy, and Buffy. They made their home in Redfield, South Dakota for a short time until Arvid enlisted in the United States Airforce. At that time while her husband was in military training, Joanne moved back to Webster with the children and worked as a nurse’s aide at Peabody Hospital. Arvid was then stationed at Charleston, South Carolina which became the family’s home for the next eight years. The family then relocated to Slayton, Minnesota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota before settling back in Webster in 1967. Arvid took employment with Lake Region Electric and Joanne worked various part-time jobs in the area. Arvid passed away in 1999. Joanne continued to live in their home in Webster keeping busy with various church and community activities. Joanne was a very active member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster where she was church organist for many years. She also was a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Oblates, National Catholic Society of Foresters, and Catholic Daughters where she served as local regent. She was also a member of the Red Hats, Research Club, and the Webster Legion Auxiliary. Volunteering was very important to Joanne partaking in volunteer work at Needs Anonymous, Day County Fair, as well as chaperoning field trips with her grandchildren. Joanne was a very talented musician and was church organist for 15 area parishes throughout the years. She was also a member of two bands: “The Cowboy Ramblers” and “The Moonlight Serenaders”. She enjoyed playing piano, crocheting, playing solitaire, completing wordsearch puzzles, entertaining friends, choir practice, and talking with her bird, Pete. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family and friends. Joanne had a zest for life and was always up for a good laugh and will be dearly missed by many. Joanne passed away Saturday September 19, 2020 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 5 days. She will be greatly missed by her children: Nancy (Douglas) Peschong of Brooklyn Park, MN, Michael Herr of Aberdeen, SD, Buffy (Greg) Moeller of Watertown, SD, daughter-in-law Peggy Herr (Glenn)Gebur of Webster, SD, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings: Charles (Linda) Wattier of Anchorage, AK, Sandy (Dave) Wagner and Carol “Tudy” (Roger) Kuecker both of Webster, SD, and one sister-in-law Caroline Wattier of Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Randy.
