Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from noon to 2 P.M. Jennings Norman Tobin was born on October 1, 1925 to George and Inger (Olson) Tobin at Pierpont, South Dakota. The family lived northeast of Pierpont where he grew up. He was baptized and confirmed at Langford Evangelical Lutheran Church. He attended country school near his home in Homer Township and graduated from Langford High School in 1943. After high school he farmed with his father. On October 1, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ruth Hanson at Highlanda Lutheran Church in rural Langford. The couple made their home on the Tobin family farm where he farmed with his father and brother and later in partnership with his son, Rodney. Jennings never retired completely from his vocation and avocation. He truly enjoyed feeding cows and growing grain. Finally in October 2015 he and Ruth moved to Sun Dial Manor for health reasons. Jennings was a member of Langford Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served on the Lake Region Electric Board of Directors and the Farmers Union Oil Company of Pierpont, SD where he was elected president. Jennings was a forward thinker, refusing to look back. He much preferred looking at new machinery at the State Fair than going to a Threshing Bee. He was very proud of his children and took great delight in watching his grandchildren grow and mature into responsible adults. Totally unplanned was the acronym formed with the grandchildren’s names in birth order ACRES. Survivors include his wife of Bristol, SD; one son, Rodney (Evelyn) Tobin of Pierpont, SD; one daughter, Jane (Gregg) Ode of Brandon, SD; one brother, Harvey (Dorcas) Tobin of Cape Girardeau, MO; five grandchildren, Alex (Alicia) Ode, Elisabeth (Trevor) Martinmaas, Chelsea (Jared) Paulson, Rachel (Jordan) Lynde and Shauna (Chris) Nickeson; and six great grandchildren, Elly and Jesse Paulson, Maggie and Rowan Lynde, Brynlee Nickeson and Ava Ode. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings and a sister, Charlotte Rice.
