Jeanette Lutz 85 of Webster died Saturday June 1, 2013 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 6, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Webster. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Fiksdal Funeral Service. Jeanette Shirley Cavanaugh, the oldest of seven children was born on Saturday October 8, 1927 to Alvin and Flora (Herr) Cavanaugh at her grandparent’s farm. She was baptized in the Lily Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Butler Evangelical United Brethren Church. She attended school in the Butler and Roslyn areas where the family lived at the time. She worked as a clerk in several stores until October 23, 1945 when she became the bride of Leonard Lutz in the United Methodist Church in Webster. It was there she became a lifelong member. The couple made their home on a farm in Morton Township. In 1958 they moved and later purchased their farm in Highland Township. They became the parents of two children, Joanie and Jack. The entire family was active in 4-H. Jeanette was also a member of the Highland Hobby Club, the Farm Bureau, and UMC where she taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in UMC Ladies and Circle, and served on the church council. She sold Rada Cutlery for 20 years for the UMC Women. In 1979, she moved to Webster following the deaths of her husband and son. She enjoyed bowling and golf for many years. She was also a member of Webster Senior Citizens and served as Treasurer. Jeanette was a wonderful cook and had a green thumb for gardening and plants. She loved playing pinochle, embroidering tea towels for her family and friends, traveling to Arizona, Hawaii, California, Florida, Missouri, and especially to Montana and North Dakota to see her daughter and beloved only granddaughter. Jeanette passed away Saturday June 1, 2013 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 85 years 7 months, and 24 days. She will be forever missed by her daughter Joanie Gustin and her partner Brian Engelhorn of Mandan, ND, granddaughter Charee Linton of Minot, ND, sister Joyce Ewalt, sisters-in-law Jo Lutz and Irene Cavanaugh all of Webster, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, son Jack, brothers Berdell and Alan Cavanaugh, sisters and brothers-in-law Pat and LaVern Schulz, Fern and Gerald Rick and brothers-in-law Lawrence Lutz and Joe Ewalt.
