WEBSTER - Jean Thomas 97 Webster passed away Wednesday December 26, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Aberdeen. Private services will be held.
Jean was born to Cornelius and Alice (Sckerl) Wells in Eden SD on June 30, 1921. She was baptized into the Episcopal Church in Webster, SD.
Jean graduated from Webster High School in 1939, attended business school in Huron SD and worked a short time. Jean and Donn Thomas were married on May 30, 1943. Donn and Jean began their married life in Norfolk VA where Donn was enlisted in the US Navy.
Other than the time spent in Huron and Norfolk VA, Jean was a lifelong resident of Webster.
Jean had a talent for keeping a well-kept home, filled with interesting collections. She had a soft heart for animals, especially cats. She was an avid bridge player and liked board games of any kind. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at Bethesda Home for over 25 years and was active in the Episcopal Church for most of her life. She enjoyed food and fellowship at the Golden Age Club, loved thrift store shopping, reading, visiting places of interest, and spending time with family and friends.
Jean is survived by her son, Tom (Mary) Thomas of West Point, Nebraska, sister, Joan Wanner of Temecula, CA, granddaughters: Tammi (Chad) Kurmel of Okemos Michigan, Tawni (Randy) Erickson of LaVista Nebraska, great granddaughters: Jensen and Abbey Kurmel, Hannah and Lindsey Erickson, nieces: Suzi (Donn) Larson, Jodi (Jay) Kollar, nephews: Jon Wanner and Andy Wells, great niece: Lexi (J.J.)Angeles, great nephews: Chase and Jackson Kollar.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donn in 1985, her brothers John and James, sisters-in-law: Ruth Wells, Gladys Wells, and Phyllis Wells; and brother-in-law: Marlin Wanner.
