James "Jim" Peterson, 87, of Bristol, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. Inurnment will take place at the Bristol Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 6-7 P.M. closing with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the funeral home.
James Peterson was born on July 2, 1935, in Bristol, SD to Clarence and Gertrude Peterson.
He graduated from Bristol High School in 1954. Immediately after high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in Korea, Japan, and California.
On October 7, 1956, he was united in marriage with Alice Jean Peterson of Bristol. They lived in Costa Mesa, CA while Jim finished his tour of duty with the Marines.
They made their home in Aberdeen after Jim finished his degree at Wahpeton (ND) School of Science. In 1963 they moved to Bristol where they resided until 1980 when a career change took them to West Fargo, ND. When they retired (Alice Jean from the West Fargo Schools and Jim from Cargill) they returned home to Bristol.
Jim was a longtime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where he and Alice Jean were married. He was also a proud Marine and a Veteran of the Korean War. In June of 2022 his military service was recognized via an Honors Flight to Washington, DC.
Family was very special to Jim. He thoroughly enjoyed attending every event in which his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participated.
He loved watching and attending sports events (especially the Bristol Pirates, NSU Wolves, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings). He also loved to play cards with family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Alice Jean, his parents, and his brothers, Giles, Myron (Pete), and Jerry.
Left to mourn his memory are his son Jeff and Kris Peterson, hisdaughter Julie and Jiggs Dyste, his son Jay and Teresa Peterson, his grandchildren (Brooke and Ben Snyder, Kerri and Austin Bonner, Ashley and Zach Bosh, Clare and Dexter Albrecht, Andrew and Samantha Peterson, and Hilary and Brandon Black), and his great grandchildren (Ella Schonteich, Will and Charleigh Bosh, Addison and Ava Albrecht, Kroy Black, Affinity and Nevaeh Moncada, and James Peterson)
