ROSLYN- Irvin Mydland, 92 of Roslyn died on Friday, January 06, 2006 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. His funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Roslyn Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Roslyn Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Monday 4-8 P.M. and prior to services on Tuesday. Irvin E. Mydland was born on Saturday, July 19, 1913 to Lars and Serine (Skaare) Mydland on the family farm near Pierpont, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont. He was educated in Day County rural schools and then helped on the family farm. In 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served in Iceland and Scotland and other bases in the country and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On May 6, 1946 he married Dorothy Nelson at the University Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington. After their marriage the couple made their home in Roslyn where he worked as a mechanic for twenty nine years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Roslyn Lutheran Church where he served as custodian for 30 years and was president of the congregation. He served for many years as a volunteer fireman for the Roslyn Fire Department. He was recently honored for 60 years of membership to Rudolph Baukol Post 253 American Legion of Roslyn. Other activities included Sons of Norway, Senior Citizens and R.S.V.P. His favorite pastimes were watching the Minnesota Twins and spending time with his wife and family. Irvin passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 18 days. He is mourned and will be missed by his wife, Dottie of Roslyn; his children, Diane (& Dennis) Healy of Ivanhoe, MN, Steven (& Cheryl) Mydland of Lennox, SD and Bonnie (& Duane) Snaza of Delano, MN; his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathon (& Amber) and Jack Healy; Brett, Cameron and Angela Snaza; step granddaughter Kelly (& Chad) Wulf; great grandson, Trevor Healy; step-great grandsons, Camden and Braeden Wulf; two sisters, Ione Connaughton and Dorothy Waters of Seattle, WA; and two brothers, Luther (& Lola) Mydland of Aberdeen, SD and Homer (& Marian) Mydland of Groton, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and one sister, Ruth Strand.
