Irene Wasilk

Irene Wasilk 90 of Roslyn died Saturday September 28, 2013 at Strand Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn. Her funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday October 1, 2013 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Burial will be in the St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in Grenville. Visitation will be Monday 5 – 7 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Rosary at the funeral home. Irene Pearl Wasilk was born on Monday January 22, 1923 in Staples, Minnesota; the daughter of Neal and Lillie (Rupprecht) Robinson. In January, 1941, she married Leonard May Sr. in Seattle, Washington. To this union two sons were born: Leonard May Jr. and Daniel May Sr. In 1949, she married Edward Wasilk in Grenville, South Dakota. Together the couple had five sons: Wayne, Ted, David, John, and Joseph. Irene and Ed made their home on the family farm near Pickerel Lake in Kosciusko Township near Grenville. In 1984, the couple retired from farming and moved to Roslyn, South Dakota. Ed passed away on January 3, 1993. In 2003, Irene moved to Strand Kjorsvig Living Center and resided there until her passing. Irene was a homemaker and farm wife who took pride in her garden, chickens, and providing good meals for her family. She was a hard worker; but also loved to dance and listen to polka music. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and assisting Ed with his woodworking. She also was a member at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville. Irene passed away Saturday September 28, 2013 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 6 days. She is survived by her three sons: Wayne Wasilk of Roslyn, SD, Ted (LuAnn) Wasilk of Waubay, SD, and David Wasilk of Grenville, SD, five grandsons: Daniel May Jr., Neal May, Lance May, Chad Wasilk, and Nick Wasilk, nine granddaughters: Kim (May) Erickson, Kristin (May) VanderHeyden, Cheryl (May) Petrowiak, Bobby (Wasilk) Westra, Lisa (Wasilk) Knight, Aimee (Wasilk) Sippel, Emily (Wasilk) Garness, Nikki (Wasilk) Kwasniewski, and Laura Wasilk, along with many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, sons: Leonard May Jr., Daniel May Sr., infant sons: John and Joseph Wasilk, two grandsons: Cory Wasilk and Greg May, daughter-in-law Marlys Wasilk and one brother Leonard Robinson.
