BRISTOL- Irene Long 88 of Bristol died on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Dan Overbo officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Monday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Irene Huwe Long was born November 16, 1918 to Albert and Emma (Huwe) Huwe on a farm in Day County, South Dakota in the Bristol area. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith. She was confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran in Bristol. She worked at Hays Café while attending school and graduated in 1937 from Bristol High School. Irene worked as a cook at the Coney Island Café and the Majestic Café in Webster from 1937 until 1940, when she and her sister, Lucille co-owned and managed The Little Inn Café in Conde, South Dakota. In 1941 she married Emil Pierson. After their marriage Irene and her parents co-owned and managed the P&H Café in Bristol until 1945. She then purchased the Coney Island Café in Webster, which she managed until 1953. In 1954 she married Norman Long. The Couple made their home in California where she worked at Douglas Aircraft until moving to Arizona in 1965. There the couple managed the flea market at Apache Junction, Arizona until 1973 when Mr. Long passed away. Irene then moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she worked at Control Data Corporation until 1985, when she retired and returned to Bristol. In 1998 she moved to Webster and in July of 2006 she entered Sundial Manor. She held various offices in the Ruth Circle in Bethesda WELCA, VFW, and Senior Citizens in Bristol. She enjoyed doing cross-word puzzles, crocheting, and reading. Irene passed away at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 2 days. She is survived by three sisters: Erma (Tom) Knutson, Arletta Peterson, and Nadine (Vern) Sauer; one sister-in-law: Joyce Huwe. She is preceded by her husband, parents, two brothers: Burton and Dale Huwe, two sisters: Lois Bradstreet and Lucille Sheldon, and three brothers-in-law: Roy Sheldon, Harry Bradstreet, and DeWain Peterson.
