WEBSTER- Ida Smeins, 91 of Webster died on Sunday, March 08, 2009 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Langford Lutheran Church in Langford, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) on Wednesday, 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday at the church. Ida Gertrude Bjugan was born on Saturday, May 5, 1917 to Peter and Kathrena (Brietbach) Bjugan at Webster, South Dakota. She attended country school south of Webster and then graduated from Roslyn High School in 1937. On June 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to George Smeins at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm south of Langford in Farmington Township, Day County. Mr. Smeins passed away in 1988. After his death she remained on the farm until 1998 when she moved to Heritage Village in Webster. She entered Bethesda Home in Webster in January 2003. She was very active in Langford Lutheran Church. She served on the Township Election Board for many years. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, needlework, gardening and her family and friends. She spent endless hours painting fences and buildings, plus pulling weeds, planting and trimming trees, enjoying every minute of it! Ida passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 3 days. Survivors include two sons, Richard (Audrey) Smeins of Langford, SD and Ronald (Jeanne) Smeins of Great Falls, MT; one sister, Gladys Magee of San Dimas, CA; two granddaughters, two great granddaughters and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one grandson.
