Howard Webster

Howard Webster, 82, of Webster, SD, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022.

Memorial Gathering will be 3-6:30P.M. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster, SD. 

Howard was born on December 24, 1939 in Detroit Lakes, MN. He spent his early years exploring the land and having memorable escapades with his 5 older siblings. Howard was the final surviving child of Forrest and Nellie (Hedglin) Webster, having been preceded in death by Gerald, Bob, Gordon, and George Webster, as well as Fern (Webster) Branchaud. At the age of 12, Howard went to work on neighboring farms. Eventually he fulfilled his childhood dream of being a farmer, working his own land outside of Philbrook, MN. Even though Howard had lost his right arm in a round baler, he persevered and was recognized as a Minnesota Outstanding Young Farmer in 1975.

Howard married Carol Mudick and had two children, Rebecca and Nancie. Howard was active in his community and an usher in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley for many years. His marriage to Carol ended in 1991.

In 1999, Howard married Cindy (Johnson) Anderson and spent several years living in Little Falls, MN. In 2005, Howard and Cindy purchased Webster’s Dakota Diner in Webster, SD. They owned and operated the local diner until 2018. Howard enjoyed collecting antiques, building and remodeling houses, fishing, playing cribbage, and helping his friends and family. He had an amazing work ethic and was ambitious. Howard was loved and admired by many.

Howard is survived by his two daughters: Becke (Albert) Szczubiala and Nancie Webster both of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Jackie (Daniel) Anderson of Bradley, SD, Renae (Patrick) Hill of Seattle, WA, and Melissa Schwarz of Columbus, GA, and 11 grandchildren. His many nieces and nephews in Minnesota affectionately called him “Unc” and he will be greatly missed by all of his family
