Harvey Zubke, 95 of Florence and formerly of Waubay and Webster died on Friday, May 02, 2014 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.
His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Jeffrey Kalb will officiate. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Harvey Albert Otto Zubke was born on Friday, August 9, 1918 to Erich and Ida (Neckels) Zubke at Waubay, South Dakota. He was baptized at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended country school near his farm home. The family moved to Grassy Butte, North Dakota where he finished country school and was confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church. After he received his education he worked for his uncle, Emil in his grocery store and then farmed near Grassy Butte. In July 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served overseas during World War II. After his honorary discharge in January 1946 he returned to farming near Grassy Butte. In the early 1950’s he moved back to the Waubay area and began farming his grandfather’s homestead in Waubay Township, north of Waubay.
He was united in marriage to Violet “Dottie” Ninke on November 5, 1960 at the American Lutheran Church in Webster. After their marriage the couple continued farming the family homestead until 2004, at which time, they sold the farm and moved to Webster. The couple moved to Country View Assisted Living in Florence in November 2011.
Harvey was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay where he served as Finance Officer for several years. He was also a life member of Brady-Monson Post 129 American Legion in Waubay. He loved farming, playing cards, dancing and spending time at family gatherings.
He passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 23 days.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie of Florence, SD; one sister, Shirley Bisgard of Waubay, SD; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Zubke of Webster, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Arnold, Orville, Harry, Gerald and Dale, and one sister, Elvira.
