Harry E. Acker

WEBSTER- Memorial services for Harry E. Acker, 80, of Longview, Washington and formally of the area will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. William Olsen will officiate. Burial of his cremains with Military Rites will be at Webster Cemetery. Mr. Acker passed away on October 3, 2006 at Longview, Washington. Harry E. Acker was born on Monday, April 5, 1926 to Warren R. and Mabel (Chase) Acker on the family farm in York Township, Day County, South Dakota southwest of Lily. He grew up there with his parents, brothers and sisters. He attended school in Lily and later in life, attended Ventura College in Ventura, California where he majored in accounting and business management. In 1944 he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force where he served until 1946, during which time he attended and graduated from Armarment and Flexible Gunnery School for B-24 Aircraft at the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge he worked for the South Dakota Highway Department Survey Crew and as a farm hand from 1946-1950. In September 1950 he moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico where he was employed by Dynalectron Corp. of Washington, D.C. working at Hollaman Air Force Base, Headquarters for White Sands Missile Range in the Data Processing Division. In 1953 was transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he held the position of Buyer at an Aircraft Modification Plant. In September 1953 he was transferred to Headquarters Pacific Missile, Point Mugu, California where he held various positions as Supervisor, Quality Control, Manager of Data Processing, Security Officer, Personnel Manager and Division Administrator. He retired from Dynalectron Corp. in 1971. He moved to the Portland, Oregon area and was employed by Riedel Corp. as Manager of Accounting in the Pile Driving Division. He was reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Clara B. Wang, formally of Webster, South Dakota who was a teacher in Longview, Washington, and they were united in marriage on August 4, 1973. The couple made their home in Longview and in January 1974 he accepted a position of Lettercarrier with the Longview Post Office. He retired in 1988. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. And was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview at the time of his death. He was a member of American Legion Post 155 in Longview. Harry passed away on October 3, 2006 at Longview, Washington at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 28 days. He is survived by his wife, Clara of Longview, WA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and five sisters.
