ROSLYN- Gladys Hanson, 100 of Roslyn died on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Saron Lutheran Cemetery, Roslyn. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Monday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church. fiksdalfuneral.com. Gladys S. Sanders was born on Thursday, September 2, 1909 to Ole and Ida (Nelson) Sanders at Waubay, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Zoar Lutheran Church near Pickerel Lake. The family lived east of Pickerel Lake in Kosciusko Township, Day County where she attended country school. After she received her education she lived in Graceville, Minnesota where she worked at the hospital. On October 14, 1933 she married Albert Hanson at her parents home. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Hanson family homestead in Nutley Township, east of Roslyn. They farmed for twenty eight years and retired from farming and moved to Webster. She worked at Peabody Memorial Hospital and Bethesda Home. In 1961 they moved to Turlock, California where they operated a care home. In 1977 they returned to the Hanson family homestead and in 1983 moved to Roslyn. Mr. Hanson passed away in December 1983. She entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in July 2003. She was a member of Roslyn Lutheran Church where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. and quilting. She also belonged to Roslyn Senior Citizens and R.S.V.P. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, clothes hangers, kitchen towels and Christmas balls. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Gladys passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 100 years, 2 months and 18 days. Survivors include two sons, Alden (Myrene) Hanson of Grenville, SD and Albert (Millie) Hanson of Visalia, CA; two sisters, Florence Meier of Lakewood, CO and Doris (Eddie) Carlson of Reno, NV; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, a grandson and three sisters.
