Frances Mahlen, 101 died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Frances Laurine Mahlen was born on February 19, 1916 to Thorvald and Elena (Monshaugen) Mahlen near Roslyn, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1935. After her education she remained on the family farm to help her parents farming.
During WW11, she moved to Minneapolis to help in the war effort. She was employed at a defense plant for some time as well as other various jobs. Upon her return to the Roslyn area, Frances and her brother Emil purchased a farm southwest of Roslyn. Emil passed away in the early 1970’s and Frances moved to Webster. She worked as a caretaker for a couple ladies in Webster. In 2006, she moved to Strand Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn and remained there until her passing.
Frances was a member at Fron Lutheran Church where she was involved in quilting as well as Ladies Aid and Circle. She enjoyed watching TV, especially Pastor Salem on Sunday mornings.
Frances passed away Wednesday May 24, 2017 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 101 years, 3 months, and 5 days.
She is survived by one cousin, Duane Mahlen of Los Alamitos CA, one nephew, Jim (Farol) Hendrickson of Roslyn, SD, two nieces, Arlene Nelson of Mesa, AZ and Joyce (Jess) Riddle of Rapid City, SD . She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Emil, two sisters, Ruby Hendrickson and Ethel Gilbertson, one nephew, Jon Hendrickson, and two great-nephews, Jeremy Hendrickson and Mike Pies.
