Evelyn Rye, 96 of Bristol and formerly of Webster died on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Daniel Ostercamp. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services. Memorial may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 820 Main, Webster, SD 57274 or Sun Dial Manor, P.O. Box 337, Bristol, SD 57219. Evelyn Selma Jondahl was born on Monday, July 24, 1916 to Severt and Anna (Swenson) Jondahl on the family farm in Independence Township near Langford, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at rural Falnes Lutheran Church. On June 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Rye at Falnes Lutheran Church. To this union one daughter was born, Annetta Elaine Rye. The couple farmed in Independence Township. In 1970 they retired and moved to Webster where she was an original employee of Dakotah, Inc. and for several years was a substitute curator at the Webster City Museum. Arthur passed away in May 1995. After his death she continued to live in Webster until entering Sun Dial Manor in 2007. She was a long time member of Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont and joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1972 where she was active in the Lutheran Church Women and Circle. She was a Grey Lady at Bethesda Home in Webster and a member of the Golden Age Club and Sons of Norway. She loved to read and have coffee with her friends. Evelyn passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 96 years and 29 days. Survivors include her daughter, Annetta (Kenneth) Winkle of Kenosha, WI; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Elizabeth Warne) Winkle and Erika Winkle both of Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers.
