Eveline Axness, 86 of Waubay died on Wednesday, July 04, 2012 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Inurnment will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. There will be a Rosary Scriptural Wake on Monday at 7 P.M. at the Church. There will be no reviewal. Eveline Maryana Gronke was born on Sunday, March 7, 1926 to Bernard and Martha (Ewalt) Gronke at Grenville, South Dakota. She attended grade school in Grenville. After she received her education, she worked in the area. During World War II she moved to Chicago and Washington, D.C. and worked there for a short time, returning to Grenville in early 1945. On October 1, 1945 she was united in marriage to Harold Kohlhoff at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm in Racine Township by Rush Lake where the couple farmed. To this union, three children were born, Darlene, Roberta and Dale. Harold passed away in October 1974. After his death she remained on the farm. On June 9, 1978 she married Alvin Axness of Roslyn. The couple made their home on Eveline’s farm until moving to Waubay in 1998. Eveline was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay where she taught C.C.D. and was a member of the Altar Society. She belonged to the Waubay Senior Citizens, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, needlework, bingo and playing cards. Eveline passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 27 days. Survivors include her husband, Alvin of Waubay, SD; two daughters, Darlene (Charles) Cleal of Ainsworth, NE and Roberta (Don) Zubke of Waubay, SD; one son, Dale (Kari) Kohlhoff of Fredericsburg, TX; an adopted daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Wolf of Chamberlain, SD; two step-sons, Larry Axness of Pierpont, SD and Duane (Luan) Axness of Brookings, SD; two step-daughters, Imogene (Richard) Helgeson of Roslyn, SD and Marcie (Gene) Beisch of Webster, SD; two brothers, Bernard Gronke of Grenville, SD and William (Mary) Gronke of Lake Geneva, WI; six grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and 34 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a step-son, three sisters and two brothers.
