GRENVILLE- Eugene Kurkowski, 57 of rural Grenville died on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at his home. In honor of Eugene’s request there will only be private services for the family. fiksdalfuneral.com Cards may be sent to Gloria Kurkowski, 13418 444th Ave, Waubay, SD 57273 Eugene Lewis Kurkowski was born on January 1, 1952 to Theodore and Rose (Kwasniewski) Kurkowski at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota. He attended country school near Grenville through the eighth grade. After his education he worked various jobs in the area, but mainly farmed on the family farm near Grenville. On September 24, 1971 he was united in marriage to Gloria Schuster at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, South Dakota. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters. The couple made their home on the Kurkowski family farm and continued to farm. Eugene enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, farming and especially spending time with his loved ones. Eugene passed away Sunday May 24, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 57 years, 4 months, and 24 days. Survivors include: his wife of 38 years, Gloria of rural Grenville,SD, three sons; Chad Kurkowski of rural Grenville,SD, Jason Kurkowski and Travis Kurkowski both of Webster,SD, two daughters; Jenna Kurkowski and Brittany Kurkowski both of Watertown, SD, three brothers; Richard (Sheryl) Kurkowski of rural Grenville, SD, Dennis (Bernie) Kurkowski of Webster, SD, and Kenny Kurkowski of Grenville, SD, five sisters; Bernice (Tony) Snaza of Grenville, SD, Delores Schwartz of IL, Priscilla Raeder of IL, Armella (Dale) Traner of TX, and Audrey Martin of NM, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lorraine Weyh and Diane Waiflein.
