Eugene "Gene" Erickson

Eugene “Gene” Erickson 66, of Webster, passed away Monday June 19, 2017 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Funeral mass will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 23, 2017 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Inurnment with military rites will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Memorial visitation will be the funeral home on Thursday 5-7 P.M. ending with a 7 P.M. Rosary. Eugene LeRoy Erickson was born on March 30, 1951 to Kenneth and Lorraine (Wika) Erickson at Webster, South Dakota. The family made their home near Bristol, South Dakota. Gene was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. He attended country school near his home through the fourth grade and continued at the Bristol Public School, graduating from Bristol High School in 1969. After his education, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972. Gene returned to Bristol and worked for Elmer Amberg as a milk truck driver. In November of 1972, he married Liann Herr. To this union two sons were born, Randi and Jami. The couple made their home in Aberdeen where Gene was employed by Coca-Cola Company, Kirby Vacuum Company, and Kerr McGee Gas Station. In March of 1975, Gene along with his father-in-law Jerry Herr purchased Gene’s Mobile in Webster, which later became Gene’s Service. Gene operated the business for 38 years, until selling it in 2012 when he took a mechanic position at Northland Auto in Webster. Gene was a kind soul who was a friend to all. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching the Pittsburg Stealers, taking care of his well-manicured yard, and above all else, he enjoyed time spent with his family. He always looked forward to visits from his sons and grandson, Gavyn. Gene enjoyed the simple things in life and will be greatly miss by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be forever in the hearts of his mother, Lorraine Erickson of Webster, SD, wife, Liann of Webster, SD, sons, Randi Erickson of Pierre, SD, and Jami Erickson of Grand Forks, ND, one grandson, Gavyn Erickson of Grand Forks, ND, one brother, Rick (Kathy) Erickson of Tennessee, four sisters, Karen (Wes) Nolte of Webster, SD, Shirley Jones of Aberdeen, SD, Joyce (Cy) Lentz of Houston, TX, and Judy Zeta of Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Erickson, brother, Larry Erickson, father-in-law Jerry Herr, mother-in-law, Cleo Herr, brother-in-law, Larry Herr, and nephew Brad Herr.
