Elwood Monson, 80 of Webster died Monday March 18, 2013 at Strand Kjorsvig care center in Roslyn. His funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Daniel Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Cemetery,Webster. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 5-7 P.M. and on Saturday at the church prior to services. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Elwood Odean Monson was born on Sunday, September 4, 1932 to Peter and Inga (Kleven) Monson Roslyn South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church. He attended country school near his home and after the death of his father he, along with his brother farmed the family farm. He worked for Vevang Construction and then began working for Pete Monzel Company as a truck driver. On September 20, 1972 he was united in marriage to Shirley Horst Dolney at Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster where Elwood continued working for Pete Monzel. In 1979 they purchased Bob’s Bar which they renamed the Frontier and operated the business as a supper club. Shirley passed away in 1997. After her death he sold the business to their son and Elwood worked their part-time until 2009. He entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in November 2012. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, yard work, driving around town and having coffee with many of his friends. Elwood passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 14 days. Survivors include two sons, Steve Dolney of Webster and Doug (Michele) Monson of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Percival Monson of Webster, SD and Roger (Sharon) Monson of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Orlean Lardy of Milbank, SD; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
