Elizabeth "Betty" Olson

BRISTOL- Elizabeth “Betty” Olson, 85 of Bristol died on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her home in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 17, 2007 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Keith Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 3-7 P.M. and prior to services on Monday at the church. Elizabeth Mae Brokaw was born on Thursday, September 24, 1922 to Lloyd and Anne (Sjerven) Brokaw on the family farm near Crandall, South Dakota. She grew up in the Crandall area, attended country school and graduated from Bristol High School in 1940. While attending high school she stayed and cooked at the Brokaw Hotel in Bristol. On November 28, 1941 she married Kenneth Olson at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed west of Bristol in Bristol Township, Day County, South Dakota. In 1980 they retired from farming and moved to Bristol. Mr. Olson passed away in April 2004. After his death she remained in her own home until the present time. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol where she was a member of W.E.L.C.A., the Ruth Circle and was an L.D.R. Advisor. She also belonged to the Elks and Moose Lodges in Aberdeen. She enjoyed her telephone conversations with her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, various cousins and friends. She felt it was important to keep in touch with loved ones. One of her greatest joys was being able to host the Brokaw family reunion this past summer. Betty enjoyed each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of each one of them. She also enjoyed spending summers at their family cabin on Enemy Swim Lake. Elizabeth passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her home in Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 20 days. Survivors include four sons, Richard (Sandra) Olson of Deadwood, SD, Donald (Carol) Olson of Aberdeen, SD, James Olson (Deb Kaiser) of Sioux Falls, SD and David (Patricia) Olson of Bristol, SD; one daughter, Janet (Kirk) Lardy of Bristol, SD; two brothers, James (Joanne) Brokaw of Forbes, ND and Leslie (Geraldine) Brokaw of Renton, WA; two sisters, Lucille Meyer of Spokane, WA and Joanne (Paul) Merkel of Forbes, ND; ten grandchildren, Scott (Tracy) Olson of Rapid City, SD, Jackie (Rob) Keil of Aberdeen, SD, Kim (Josh) Watson of Sioux Falls, SD, Nicole Olson (Corey Kasin) of Sioux Falls, SD, Tracy Lardy (Damani Peters) of Sioux Falls, SD, Amber Olson (Tom Henry) of Hiawatha, IA, Steven Olson of Sioux Falls, SD, Jarett Olson of Bristol, SD, Kristi (Cody) Bonn of Ferney, SD and Ashley Olson of Aberdeen, SD; and three great grandchildren, Carson Olson, Morgan and Hannah Keil. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great granddaughter, Erin Olson and one sister, Marion Hutman.
