Elizabeth “Betty” Billet, 89 of Waubay died on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. James Wilshusen officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday.
Elizabeth “Betty” Tillie Blakely was born on June 26, 1926 to Lorenzo “Loren” and Lena (Juven) Blakely at Breckenridge, Minnesota. She grew up in Beaver Creek, Minnesota and graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1944.
On May 20, 1944 she was united in marriage to Harold Frank Billet at Luverne, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple moved from base to base while Harold was in the service, finally settling in Houston, Texas. To this union, six children were born; four sons, Kenneth, Conrad, Craig and Christopher, and two daughters, Charlene and Carole. In 1987 Betty moved to Waubay, South Dakota to live near her sister, Luella “Lou” Ysbrand. In August 2009 she moved to St. William’s Care Center in Milbank, due to poor health and to accompany her sister, Luella.
While living in Waubay she was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed volunteer work in the community.
Betty passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Carole Clark of Tomball, TX; one son, Christopher Billet of Penrose, Colorado; many grandchildren and many more great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Kenneth, Conrad and Craig, one daughter, Charlene and two sisters, Blanche and Luella.
