Edwin "Ed" Majeske, 94, of Webster, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Webster.
Private family services will be held.
Edwin Herman Majeske was born on July 17, 1929, to William “Bill” and Erna (Schutte) Majeske at Winthrop, Minnesota. He was baptized at Winthrop and attended grade school there until 1940, when the family moved to Webster, South Dakota. The family attended American Lutheran Church where Ed was confirmed.
He was enrolled at Webster school and graduated from WHS in 1949. While in high school, Ed excelled in many sports, especially basketball. Ed and the Webster Bearcats won three consecutive State B Basketball titles.
After high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1951-1955 on the USS Salem 139 heavy cruiser in the Mediterranean Sea. He then served two years at San Juan Naval Base in Puerto Rico.
On July 20, 1951, he married Donna M. Bohn at Butler, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Webster where they raised four children, Marla, Doug, Chuck, and Melanie. Ed worked as the Hamm’s beer distributor for Carl Bloom Distributing and later at J.A. Dady Distributing. He then took employment with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier where he worked until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed coin collecting, playing horseshoes, gardening, and jig saw puzzles.
Ed passed away surrounded by his loving family Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 13 days.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Donna of Webster, SD, children, Marla (Jim) Redlin of Ellendale, ND, Doug (Cheri) Majeske of Rapid City, SD, Chuck (Shari) Majeske of Webster, SD, and Melanie (Joe) Gaikowski of Webster, SD, eight grandchildren, Jenny Redlin, Michael Redlin, Sarah (Greg) Rathert, Denny Majeske, Erran (Shane) Blackledge, Ashley (Sean) Ogren, Ross (Anna) Yost, and Leslie (Zach) Busch. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Colby and Leo Rathert, Elliot Majeske, Walker Ogren, Grady and Helen Yost, and Carson and Makayla Busch, one sister Caroline Hanson, many nieces and nephews, three step-grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn) Lewis, Danielle (Kaden) Hogland, and Josh (Jessica) Gaikowski, as well as five step-great grandchildren, Trey, Abbi, and Jersey Lewis, and Elise and Josie Hoglund. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Stark, and brothers, Sheldon and Ervin Majeske.
