ROSLYN –Edward Blank, 90 of Roslyn died on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Aberdeen.
Open casket visitation will be 3-5 P.M. at the funeral home on Sunday, May 15.
Memorial services will be later in the month on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn. Inurnment is at Roslyn Lutheran Cemetery.
Edward J. Blank was born on Saturday, July 11, 1925 to Edward and Linda (Booth) Blank at Roslyn, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church. He attended school in Roslyn and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1943. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific on the island, Biac in the Philippines. After he was honorably discharged in 1946 he returned to Roslyn.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Louise Knutson on June 3, 1951 at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church at Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Roslyn where he worked alongside his family at Blank Implement as the shop manager until 1975. He then worked at the International dealership in Webster for a few years until going to work for Harr Motors in Aberdeen where he worked as a parts man. He returned to work in Webster at Midwest Motors as a parts man until he semi-retired. He worked as a handyman at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn whenever he was needed.
He was a member of Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn where he served on the church council holding various positions on the council. He was a member of Rudolph Baukol Post 253 American Legion, V.F.W. and the Web Water Board. Ed and Louise thoroughly enjoyed traveling all over the world. Together, they attended countless Roslyn Vikings sporting events, always sporting their RHS Viking Attire! Ed loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed spending time tinkering in his new garage. The family enjoyed many years at the family lake cabin at Pickerel Lake. Ed enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and above all, spending time with his beloved family.
Ed passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 90 years and 10 months.
Survivors include three daughters, Lynnelle Blank of Huron, SD, Jacey (Scott) Hoecker of Duluth, MN and Gwen Kampa of Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Tim (Martha) Blank of Eugene, OR; four grandchildren, Celeste Kampa, Josie Steinmetz, Rachael Blank and Stephanie Blank; and four great grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Kampa, Remington and Kash Besaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise (April 3, 2016), one grandson, Brandon Kampa, one brother, Clarence, one sister Ruth Riedl and a son-in-law, Lynn Steinmetz.
