Edna Jensen

Edna Jensen 100 of Bristol passed away Friday December 4, 2015 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday December 11, 2015 at Bethesda Lutheran in Bristol, Rev. Chris Strom will officiate. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Edna was born October 3, 1915 to Emil and Augusta (Nolte) Herr at their home west of Butler, South Dakota. She was baptized at her Grandpa and Grandma Nolte’s home and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church west of Butler. She attended rural school in Valley Township and attended high school in Bristol and Butler, graduating from Butler in 1934. Edna married Howard Jensen on April 3, 1936 in Watertown, South Dakota. They had one son, Marvin, who was born June 6, 1937. They farmed west of Butler for many years. In 1968 Howard and Edna moved to Bristol. Howard passed away on August 29, 1987 after 51 years of marriage. She did volunteer work and was employed at Sun Dial Manor where she worked in various departments. She retired at the age of 90. She moved to Sun Dial Manor in 2008. Edna loved music. She taught piano lessons and enjoyed playing the organ/piano for the residents. She was active in church and held various positions including Ladies Aid president, Sunday school teacher and was church pianist/organist in Butler Lutheran Church and Bethesda Lutheran Church for over 40 years. She was active in various organizations, including Garden Club, Octava Club and accompanying the Singing Farmers. Edna was known as the “Flower Lady” and was the care giver of the flowers at Bethesda Lutheran Church and Sun Dial Manor for many years. Roses were her favorites and became her specialty. Grateful for having shared her life are her sisters, Eleanore Whitmyre of Bristol, SD and Irene Whitmyre of Wilmar, MN; her brother, Lester Herr of Bristol, SD; along with cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Emil and Augusta, husband Howard, son, Marvin in 1999 and daughter in law, Sharon in 2007.
