Earl Witchey, 90 of Butler passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Bethesda Home in Webster.
Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Monday August 13, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Bristol. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery near Butler.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Earl Hugh Witchey was born on April 26, 1928 to Floyd and Blanche (Crabb) Witchey at Tea Garden Oklahoma. The family lived near Whitehorse Oklahoma where he attended Farry School. In the early 1940’s he moved to South Dakota and worked with his uncle Earl doing custom combining.
On December 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mavis Petrich at Webster, South Dakota. To this union six children were born Ronald, Floyd, Dan, Joe, Sharil, and John. Earl then farmed on his own for a few years and later worked as a farmhand for farmers in the area.
Earl was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bristol. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden. He loved to tinker and liked inventing new toys.
Earl passed away Thursday August 9, 2018 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 14 days.
He will be forever loved by his wife of almost 65 years, Mavis of Webster, SD, 4 sons: Floyd (Joan) Witchey of Aberdeen, SD, Dan (Connie) Witchey of Dickinson, ND, Joe (Peachie) Witchey of Webster, SD, John Witchey of Groton, SD, and one daughter: Sharil (Brian) Guthmiller of Webster, SD. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Ronald Earl Witchey, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters
