WEBSTER- Dorothy Schmechel, 85 of Minnetonka, Minnesota and formally of Webster died on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Minnetonka. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 2, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. William Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Friday at the church. Dorothy was born on Sunday, September 11, 1921, to Einar and Isabella (Breandt) Falk at Devils Lake, North Dakota. She was baptized in Devils Lake and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Southam, North Dakota. Dorothy attended a country grade school at Morris School No. 2 in North Dakota and completed high school in Webster, North Dakota. Dorothy married Walter Schmechel on June 14, 1942. They lived on a farm near Southam, North Dakota until 1955 when they moved to Lakota, North Dakota. While living there she served as Nixon Township treasurer and was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was president of the Ladies Aide. In 1959 the couple moved to Webster, South Dakota, where she worked for 23 years as a clerk for Red Owl and Super Valu Stores until her retirement. After retirement Dorothy worked for five years as a volunteer for Needs Anonymous where her generosity touched the lives of many. Mr. Schmechel passed away in April 1997. After his death she remained in Webster and for the past seven years lived in Minnetonka, Minnesota, to be close to her family. Dorothy was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, serving as president of the WELCA. During her lifetime she loved playing the piano, collecting plates and tea cups, working on embroidery, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy loved spending time with the ladies of her Birthday Club and Coffee Group. Dorothy passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Minnetonka, Minnesota at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 16 days. She will be sadly missed by her children; Jennine Schmechel of Minnetonka, Janice (Mark) Fuller of Minnetonka, Jay (Karen) Schmechel of Hudson, WI, Janel (John) McGreevy of Eagan, MN; seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.
