WEBSTER – Doris Schmidt 87 of Sioux Falls and formerly of Webster died Friday September 11, 2015 at a care center in Sioux Falls.
Her funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 15, 2015 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Doris Marie Zubke was born on Friday September 16, 1927 to Hugo and Emma (Nechels) Zubke at Waubay, South Dakota. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Waubay and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster, South Dakota. She attended school in Webster graduating in the spring of 1945.
On March 22, 1945 she married the love of her life, Arvin Schmidt at Webster. The couple made their home on the Schmidt family farm for one year before moving to a farm near Bristol, South Dakota. In 1956, the family moved to Sioux Falls where Doris worked as an office clerk at United Buckingham, John Deere Warehouse, and Chippawa Freight Lines.
In 1980, the couple retired and in 1981 they moved to Brant Lake near Chester, South Dakota. In July of 2000, they moved to Webster and spent their winters in Weslaco, Texas. Arvin passed away February 10, 2005. Doris remained in Webster until September 1, 2006 when she relocated to Brandon, South Dakota to be closer to family. She lived independently until 2012 when she entered assisted living for two years and finally due to health reasons she moved to Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls, where she remained until her passing.
She is survived by a son Dennis (Karlene) Schmidt of Rapid City, SD, a daughter Beverly (David) Wessels of Steen, MN, a son-in-law Harold Wessels of Luverne, MN, six grandchildren and spouses, fifteen great-grandchildren and two brothers-in-law Franklin Schmidt of Spearfish, SD, and Robert (Sharon) Schmidt of Webster, SD. She was precede in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Sharon Wessels in 2001, two infant sons at birth, two siblings, and one nephew.
