WAUBAY: Donna Hanson 74, of Waubay, died on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Watertown. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Egeland Lutheran Church south of Waubay, Rev. Michael Flechsig officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster and prior to the services on Wednesday. Donna Jean Hoff was born on Saturday May 25, 1935 at home in Waubay, South Dakota to Henry and Edna (Hein) Hoff. She was the youngest of seven children. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Waubay. Her early years were spent with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hein in Minnesota. When Donna became school age, she returned to Waubay and there attended public school. On April 7, 1951 she married David Hanson at the Hanson family farm and honeymooned in Watertown, South Dakota. Also at that time, David left college and returned to the farm duties as his father was ill. David died on November 8, 1998. After his death she continued to live on the farm. Donna’s interests and activities included trapshooting, embroidery, crocheting, and quilting at the church. Donna won many awards through her years of shooting including 4 State Championships. She enjoyed these activities with her family. She also was a member of the Red Hats, and had fun with their meetings and outings. She was a member of the Egeland Lutheran Church , and was active in Ladies Aid, Bible study, and she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served on the church council. Donna passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 10 days. Survivors include two sons, Gary and Pam (Bisgard) Hanson of Renner, South Dakota, Rick and Susie (Mittelstaedt) Hanson of Waubay, two brothers, Jerry (Patricia) Hoff of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and LaVoid (Lauretta) Hoff of Watertown, South Dakota, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and her special friend Harold (Augie) Ackerman of Webster. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Margaret Schulz and Shirley Goebel, and two brothers; Harvey and Les Hoff.
