Donald “Don” Martin, 83, of Bristol died Monday October 31, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Aberdeen.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday November 11, 2016 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Fr. Melvin Kuhn will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bristol Cemetery.
Donald Edward Martin was born on January 26, 1933 to Edward and Loretta (Bierschbach) Martin at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bristol. He attended grade schools in Andover and Scotland Townships and graduated from Webster High School in 1951. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Following basic training, he spent one year in Camp Casey Army Base located forty miles north of Seoul, South Korea. The following year he was transferred to Schofield Army Base near Waikiki, Hawaii where he served as one of the head cooks for the base.
Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to the Bristol area to farm with his father and brother, Bob. Following the death of his parents, Don continued to reside on the family farm until the present time.
Don loved to fish and to hunt for many years and maintained a home near the Missouri River for that purpose.
Don passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 25 days.
He will be deeply missed by his surviving family, his brother, Bob (Karen) Martin of Salem, SD; two nieces, Kathy (Kurt) Stiefvater of Salem, SD and Marybeth (Matthew) Ellerbrock of Burlington, WI; grand nieces and nephews, Lauren, Megan and Karlie Stiefvater and Nathan, Jacob and Jospeh Ellerbrock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Loretta and younger brother, Lloyd.
