WEBSTER- Donald Loterbauer 91 of Webster died on Sunday at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster, Burial will be in St. Otto’s Cemetery. Visitation- Wednesday at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster 4-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Don Loterbauer was the eldest of eleven children born to Frank and Emma (Stern) Loterbauer on Thursday, June 6, 1918 at Loyalton, South Dakota. At a young age his parents and their four children moved to a farm near Crandall, South Dakota in two railroad cars. He attended country school. He grew up in hard times with the depression and drought which had a great impact on his life. As a member of the “Greatest Generation,” he proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army, spending time on Attu Island in Alaska. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, World War II Victory Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, American Theater Medal and one Service Stripe. After his discharge in 1945 he farmed in the Crandall and Lily areas. On June 18, 1948 he was united in marriage to “Trace” Gebur. The couple had no children. They made their home in Webster where he was employed by Floyd Knight Construction for 37 years. Following retirement, he mowed lawns, did snow removal, gardening and wood construction of lawn ornaments. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. On his 90th birthday he was able to visit the farm where he was born. He was a member of the Engebretson Lien Post 156 American Legion of Lily and the Webster V.F.W. Post 4690. Don went to be with the love of his life, Trace, on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 22 days. Survivors include four brothers, Edward (Leatta) Loterbauer of Bozeman, MT, Raymond (Esther) Loterbauer of Watertown, SD, Glen (Jeannette) Loterbauer of Webster, SD and Robert (Rita) Loterbauer of Bristol, SD; two sister, Irene (Bob) Howell of Aberdeen, SD and Francis Dewey of Belleville, KS; special family members, Kayla, Dylan, Dan and Peg Kirchmeier of Webster, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1998, two brothers and two sisters.
