It is with sadness that we announce that Dolores “Dory” Elizabeth Bullert (nee Arndt), our spirited mother, passed away on February 27, 2025 at Sanford Hospital in Webster, SD. Dory was born March 23rd, 1933 in McIntosh, SD to Donna and Arnold Arndt. The family later moved to the Aberdeen area. After graduating from Central High School, Dory continued her education and graduated with a teaching certificate from Northern. Dory taught at a country school near Aberdeen before marrying her dear husband, David, and moving to Webster.
Dory is survived by her six children Susan Bullert (Craig Wellman) of Clear Lake, IA, Robert Bullert (Wanita) of Webster, Brian Bullert (Mary Lou) of LaBolt, SD, Barry Bullert (Mary) of Webster, Caroline Jackson (Mark) of Westminster, MD, and Katherine Breske (Randall) of Webster; outspoken grandmother to Dustin Bullert, Ross Bullert, Joseph Bullert, Christopher Bullert (Michelle), Chelsey Wood (Justin), Breanna Bullert, Katherine Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson, Olivia McGreal (Josh), Emily Breske, and Ava Breske; great grandmother to Penelope, Pria, Kaden, Kamryn, Cruz, Macie, Brody, Beckham, and baby McGreal; fiery and loving sister to Ramona Grote (Mina, SD); nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother John “Hoot” Arndt, nephew Steven Grote, and 4 grandchildren.
Dory was an active participant in the SD Democratic Party and United Methodist Church. Fearless in her advocacy for those most vulnerable, she was also involved in East River Legal Services, Northeast Community Action, Northeast Head Start, Northeast Mental Health Services, Peace and Justice, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIPS), and helped co-found Needs Anonymous in Webster.
Compassionate, humorous, and steadfast in her convictions, Dory was always ready to lend an ear and offer advice whether you wanted it or not. It is what we will miss most about her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Needs Anonymous at 504 Main Street, Webster, SD 57274...link below https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=VLDYC36KFW5G4
If so inclined, Dory would have liked nothing more than people volunteering a few hours to help others. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
