WAUBAY- Delton Cardwell, 83 of Webster and formally of Waubay died on Saturday, Janaury 7, 2006 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Memorial services will take place at a later date. Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster was in charge of the arrangements. Delton Everett Cardwell was born on June 5, 1922 to Albert and Ethel (Fitz) Cardwell in Roberts County, South Dakota near Wilmot. He attended several country schools and Wilmot Public School and graduated from the eighth grade in 1937. He worked for several area farmers before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II he served overseas in Europe, Africa and the Middle Eastern Theaters and received the the Silver Star and the Purple Heart Medal. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to the area and drove truck for Jack Peschke, Earl Morehouse and LaVerne Gregerson. In July 1994 he married Bernadine Hopkins at Summit, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple lived at Waubay. He retired in 1994. His wife passed away in July 2003. He loved to mow yards, play cards and being around his grandchildren and friends. He was a member of Brady-Monson Post 129 American Legion of Waubay. Survivors include his children, Roger Cardwell of WY, Larry (Joyce) Cardwell of WY, Susie (Armando) Argumedo of AZ, James (Sue) Cardwell of MN, Ron (Judy) Cardwell of MN, Delton (Wanda) Cardwell of MN, Jacque (Bryan) Dormady of MN, Diane Crouch of MO, Beverly (Craig) Anderson of Hales Corner,WI, Jeff (Bonnie) Hopkins of Waubay, SD and Wayne (Cynthia) Hopkins of Sioux Falls, SD; four brothers, Delmer (Betty) Cardwell of Milbank, SD, Elden (Leah) Cardwell of Desato, TX, Larry Cardwell of Beardsley, MN and Gary (Pat) Cardwell of Graceville, MN; two sisters, Fay Webster of MN and Shirley (Carmen) Steen; twenty three grandchildren and fifteen greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two daughters, one son and two sisters.
