Delores Nelson

Delores Nelson passed away peacefully on August 11, 2022, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, SD. She had resided there since 2014. She left us exactly two months after her 99th birthday.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, SEPTEMBER 3, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Visitation will be an hour prior to funeral service on Sepember 3, 2022. A luncheon will follow in the church basement. Burial will be at Skudesnes Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.

Memorials may be given in Delores' name to St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster or Avera Home Hospice of Aberdeen.

Delores Julaine was born June 11, 1923, to Oscar and (Bertha) Christina (Aadland) Nygaard at the family farm east of Pierpont, SD. She was baptized (June 24, 1923) and confirmed (June 13, 1937) at Skudesnes Lutheran Church located about a mile east of their farm. Delores graduated from Pierpont High School and attended Calhoon Commercial College in Minneapolis, MN. She held various positions with Northrup King Seed Co. and Lynn Mfg. in Minneapolis before becoming the payroll clerk for the K.O. Lee Co. in Aberdeen, SD.

Delores was married to Arthur Paulson June 16, 1946, at Skudesnes Lutheran Church by Rev. L. S. Gjerde. They built a house on the west side of the Herman Paulson farmstead east of Pierpont and engaged in farming. The family, including sons Virgil and Dennis, transferred their church membership from Skudesnes to Bethlehem Lutheran in Pierpont in 1963 where Delores participated in choir, church council, Sunday school, and women’s circle activities. Arthur passed away December 13, 1973 and is buried at Skudesnes cemetery.

Delores was married to Jeffers Nelson December 5, 1981 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont by Rev. L. Hernes. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, SD.

Delores enjoyed gardening, baking, and entertaining family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; husbands; baby girl; son, Dennis; sister, Clarice; and brothers Julius (infant); (Gilbert) Marvin; Reuben; Julius; and Gordon.  She is survived by her sister, LaVonne (Earl) Zumm; son, Virgil (Vickie) Paulson; granddaughter, Valerie (Bradley) Robertson; great-granddaughter, Summer Robertson; daughter-in-law, Judy (Rick) Tobin; grandson, Casey (Lora) Paulson; great-granddaughters, Abby, Sami, and Maddy Paulson; grandson, Chris Paulson; great-granddaughter, Dae Paulson. Also surviving are step-daughters, Kathy (Al) Mathiason, and Bonnie (Jim) Kretchman; step-sons, Gary (Carol) and David (Barb) Nelson; 16 step-grandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren.
