ROSLYN- Delores Kjos, 81 of Roslyn died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 31, 2009 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Fron Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Sunday 4-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. prayer service visitation will continue at the church prior to services. Delores Ann Erickson was born on February 8, 1928 to Ole and Anna (Bergstrom) Erickson in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from high school in 1946. After graduation she attended bible school at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After bible school she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked as the manager at a children’s home and later moved to Palsbo, Washington where she worked at another children’s home. She then furthered her education by receiving her teaching degree at the University of Minneapolis. On December 27, 1960 she was united in marriage to Howard Kjos at Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis. In 1967 they moved to Hampden, North Dakota where she taught school and Howard served three churches. In 1972 the family moved to Roslyn, South Dakota where Delores taught kindergarten for one year until shifting careers to nursing. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Strand Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn until her retirement in 1989. After her retirement the couple moved to Sacred Heart, Minnesota where Howard was called to serve a church. They remained there until 1993 when they returned to Roslyn. In 2006 she moved to SK Home where she lived until her passing. Delores was a member of Birthday Club, Garden Club, WMF, and many Ladies Aid groups at the churches Howard served. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, visiting with friends over a cup of coffee, watching the Minnesota Twins, and especially spending time with her family and their dog Molly.She was a very kind hearted person with endless patience. On one of the many trips she and Howard took their granddaughters, Delores taught them how to swim. The side-stroke was her specialty and it instilled in her granddaughters the same passion for swimming she had. Delores was a faithful Christian woman who was so loved, and will be deeply missed by many. Delores passed away Thursday August 27, 2009 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 19 days. Survivors include her husband Howard of Roslyn, one son Danny (Roxie) Kjos of Roslyn, one daughter Linnae (Paul) Spiering of Webster, SD, six granddaughters: Shauna (Jamie) Miotke of Webster, Codi (Nick) Lesnar of Webster, Stephanie Kjos of Aberdeen, SD, Brianna Spiering of Watertown, SD, Emily and Amanda Spiering of Webster, four great-grandchildren: Gage, Bentley, Hayden, and Marlee.
