WAUBAY- Delores Gaikowski, 71 of Waubay died on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Burial will be in the Waubay Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Tuesday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church until 8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Rosary Service. Delores Irene Hews was born on Friday, March 11, 1938 to Harold and Vera (Brady) Hews at Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. She attended school in Webster and graduated from Webster High School in 1957. After she received her education she worked at several jobs in the Webster area. On October 27, 1964 she was united in marriage to Henry Gaikowski at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Gaikowski family homestead in Waubay Township, Day County, north of Waubay. They raised dairy cattle and farmed. After the death of her husband in 1986 she continued to farm with her sons. In 1988 she began working at Alco Discount Store in Webster where she worked until her retirement in 2002. In April 2003, because of illness, she entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo and card games with family and friends. She also enjoyed word search puzzles and dancing. Delores passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 7 days. Survivors include her five children, Nancy (& Monty) Pearson of Summit, SD, Bernard (& Jill) Gaikowski of Waubay, SD, Gloria (& Gary) Snaza of Webster, SD, Ronald Gaikowski of Waubay, SD and Henry (& Deanna) Gaikowski of Waubay, SD; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Norman.
