ROSLYN- Clarence Opsahl, 93 of Roslyn and formally of Pierpont died on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Lake Area Hospital in Webster. His funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Monday 4-8 P.M. and prior to services on Tuesday. Clarence Opsahl was born on Saturday, July 27, 1912 to Sivert and Anna (Mortenson) Opsahl on the family farm in Liberty Township, Day County, South Dakota northwest of Roslyn. He was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church and attended country school near his home. He then farmed with his father and owned and operated a meat market in Roslyn. On November 23, 1947 he married Ruth Hatle at Roslyn, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Roslyn area where he farmed and worked in the hardware store in Roslyn. In 1958 the couple moved to Pierpont where he worked at Eikamp Hardware Store. In 1962 he became Postmaster at Pierpont and worked until his retirement in 1980. In 2000 the couple moved to Webster for a short time, then to the Johnson Center in Bristol. In October 2001 they moved to the Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Mrs. Opsahl passed away in January 2004. After her death he remained there until the present time. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and watching and listening to Minnesota Twins baseball. Clarence passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 24 days. Survivors include two sons, John (Donna) Opsahl of Aberdeen, SD and Paul (Natalia) Opsahl of Cedar Rapids, IA; one daughter, Marlene Kennedy of Webster, SD; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, David, one brother and three sisters.
