BRISTOL- Clara Stern, 86 of Bristol died on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday April 5, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Bristol, Rev. Ken Ballard will officiate. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery.
Closed casket visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.
Clara Bauer was born on November 24, 1931 to Daniel and Amanda (Sieler) Bauer at Loyalton, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in the Loyalton area. After her education she worked for local families doing housework.
On July 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Albert Stern at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Aberdeen. To this union four children were born. The family made their home in Loyalton until 1967 when they relocated to Bristol. Clara worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol for 23 years until her retirement in 1999. Her husband, Albert passed away in 1993 and Clara continued to reside in Bristol until moving to Sun Dial Manor where she remained until her passing.
Clara was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bristol. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at Sun Dial Manor, walking, reading, having coffee with her dear friends, playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.
Clara passed away at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 7 days.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Betty Grotte of St. Francis, MN, Diana (James) Marko of Butler, SD, Julie Schmidt (Arnie Lenling) of Mina, SD, and Paul (Onisa) Stern of Broken Arrow, OK. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Misty Gott of Clear Lake, MN, Emily (Jon) Anderson of Webster, SD, Wendy (Chris) Baumgardt of Nowthen, MN, Sarah (Josh) Morris of Fordland, MO, Adam (Kristen) Marko of Butler, SD, and Amanda Stern of England, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son-in-law Donald Grotte, and seven siblings, Albert Bauer, Viola Rhodes, Irvin Bauer, Agnes Kuhlman, Elmer Bauer, Mable Lout, and Wilbert Bauer.
