WEBSTER- Christine Nelson 100 of Webster died on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 3, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Rev. John Hisel officiating. Burial will be at Sundown Lutheran Cemetery near Springfield, MN. Vistitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the Church. Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) of Webster is in charge of the arrangements. Christine Rugna Groff was born on June 10, 1909 to Ole and Marie (Skow) Groff on a farm near Springfield, Minnesota. She attended country school near her home. On March 16, 1929 she was united in marriage to C. Emil Nelson at Sundown Lutheran Church near Clements, Minnesota. The couple made their home and farmed near Milroy, Minnesota where the couple were parents of five children. In 1957 they moved to Barrett, Minnesota where they continued to farm and she worked in a nursing home for several years. Mr. Nelson passed away in 1970. After his death she moved to Elbow Lake, Minnesota. In 1998, to live closer to her daughter, she moved to Heritage Village in Webster, South Dakota and then entered Bethesda Home in March 2004. She was active in the Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and an officer of Lady’s Aide. She became a member of the United Methodist Church when she moved to Webster. She loved to crochet doilies and tablecloths. She also loved to play cards, especially Skipbo. Christine passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 100 years, 1 month and 20 days. Survivors include one son, Gerald (Barb) Nelson of Battle Lake, MN; a daughter, Evelyn (Harrison) Dean of Webster, SD; a daughter-in-law, Gina Nelson of Wells, MN: a brother, Oliver Groff of Tracy, MN; eleven grandchildren, twentytwo great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren and five step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Donald, Richard and Merlyn, six brothers and four sisters.
