Charlotte Schmidt 79 of Roslyn died Saturday April 14, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Friday April 20, 2012 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be 5 – 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with a 7:30 prayer service. Charlotte Eloise Green was born on September 11, 1932 to Floyd Roman and Edyth Pearl (Joseph) Green at Ellendale, ND. She was baptized into the Methodist faith on June 25, 1939. She attended Ellendale School until the 7th grade when her family moved to Chelsey, ND where her mother taught. They moved back to Ellendale her freshman to junior year and then they moved to Columbia for a short time where she met Bevan Schmidt. Her family moved to Eureka, SD in 1949 and she graduated from there May 26, 1950. She moved back to Columbia and married the love of her life, Bevan Schmidt at Congregational Church in Columbia. To this union 4 children were born. Bevan enlisted into the army on November 10, 1950. They were stationed in Ft. Hood Texas until he was sent overseas to Germany. Charlotte moved back to Columbia at that time. When Bevan was out of the service, they moved to Pierpont, SD where he ran the elevator for 10 years. They moved to Wanda, MN and ran an elevator for 9 months. In 1965 they moved and purchased the elevator in Roslyn, SD where she lived and worked as bookkeeper for the elevator until the time of her death. Bevan passed away on September 11, 1999. Charlotte was a member of Roslyn Lutheran Church and was Sunday school treasurer for many years. She was active in many organizations. She was on the advisory board for Shriners Hospitals for Children-Women’s General Auxiliary for 30 years. She was also a member of the Roslyn Booster Club, Esther/Rebecca Circle, Yelduz Shrine Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star. She served on the Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center Board and she was currently serving on the Strand-Kjorsvig Foundation Board. Charlotte enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful seamstress. She loved attending Shrine events, working at the Shrine Circus and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Charlotte died on April 14, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after a short illness. Thankful for all of her love and guidance are her four children: Deborah (Bruce) Carrier of Winner, SD, Steven (Marcia) Schmidt of Roslyn, Joseph (Betty) Schmidt of San Jose, CA, and Kevan (Jennifer) Schmidt of Redding, CA, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bevan and one sister. May her memory be blessed.
