PIERPONT- Charles Tucker 85 of Pierpont died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at Manorcare Healthcare in Aberdeen. His funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Pierpont Community Church in Pierpont, Paul Kosel S.A.M., burial will be in Homer Cemetery, Pierpont. Visitation will one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday, Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of the arrangements. Charles Vernon Tucker was born on Tuesday, August 9, 1921 to Wilbur and Margaret (Shannon) Tucker in Gray, Manitoba, Canada. When he was a very small child the family moved to the Pierpont area where he attended school. As a young man he worked for area farmers, he was competent at braking horses. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was on board ship in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and the landing at North Africa. During his service he received five bronze stars, one silver star, two purple hearts and two Theatre Campaigne Ribbons. After his discharge he returned to South Dakota to the Crandall area. In May 1946 he married Ruth Sanderlin Cooper. After their marriage the couple made their home near Crandall until 1953. From 1953 the couple lived in many different areas of the country and then eventually to Williamsburg, Virginia until 1978. He was employed as a sheet metal mechanic and bull dozer operator. He moved to Pierpont in 1978 and entered Manorcare Healthcare in December 2006. Survivors include his special companion, Myrtle Bergman of Aberdeen, SD; two sons, John S. Tucker of Newport News, VA and James (Carole) Tucker of Pensacola, FL; one daughter, Margaret Eberly of San Antonio, TX; six brothers, Milton Tucker of Truth or Consequences, NM, Newton (Lucille) Tucker of Watertown, WI, Donald Tucker of Oxford, WI, Gilbert (Ellen) Tucker of Watertown, WI, Tom (Cheryl) Tucker of Pence, WI and Virgil (Nita) Tucker of Caldwell, TX; three sisters, Eunice Sanders of Waterford, WI, Joyce McCoy of New Ulm, MN and Linda (Tom) Demel of Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William.
