Charles “Chuck” Spiering 75 of Groton and formerly of Webster passed away Monday December 18, 2017 at Groton Care and Rehab Center in Groton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Friday December 22, 2017 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery near Webster.
Visitation will be at the funeral home 5-7 P.M. Thursday closing with the Rosary at 7 P.M.
Charles “Chuck” LeRoy Spiering was born on March 8, 1942 to Elvy and Laura (Geis) Spiering on the family farm in Raritan Township, Day County, north of Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. The attended St. Otto’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and then graduated from Roslyn High School in 1960. After high school he worked for area farmers in the Webster area and then near Columbia for a short time.
He was united in marriage to Luanne Lardy on November 28, 1964 at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. After their marriage the couple bought a farm north of Webster in Raritan Township. They were engaged in Dairy livestock, feeder cattle and grain farming. He also was a member of the South Dakota National Guard from 1963 – 1969. In 2008 he retired from active farming and the couple moved to Webster. He entered Groton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Groton in 2014.
He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, going to auctions and having coffee with his friends at Perebooms. He especially enjoyed sitting with his dog, Misty.
Chuck passed away at Groton, South Dakota on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 10 days.
Survivors include his wife, Luanne of Webster; two brothers, Felix (Janell) Spiering of Webster, SD and Ray (Bernice) Spiering of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters, Delores Hojnacke of Clark, SD and Carol Robinson of Roslyn, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Loren, Norman and Robert.
