Burnell Huwe, 86, of Butler passed away Saturday December 19, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
Private funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Fiksdal Funeral Service and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page.
Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery near Butler, SD.
Public walk-through visitation will be from 12-1 P.M. on Saturday at Fiksdal Funeral Service.
Burnell August Huwe was born on September 14, 1934 to Theodore and Nora (Gramberg) Huwe on a farm South of Lily, SD. Burnell was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He attended Bristol school and after his education he farmed with his uncles.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Olson on December 12, 1954 in Britton, SD. The couple made their home on the farm southwest of Bristol, SD. Burnell farmed and had various employment through out his lifetime. Douglas Aircraft in California, Sugar Creek Creamery, Milwaukee Railroad, Farmers Union Coop, South Dakota Wheat Growers, Goehring Hardware and working with various farmers in the Day County area. In 1982 Burnell and Shirley sold the farm and made their home in Butler.
Burnell became popular among many accomplished photographer's depicting South Dakota rural life.
Burnell enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing and welding. Above all he enjoyed time spent with his family and his dog, Barney.
Burnell's wit and good humor will be missed by all his family and friends. He was always able to make you laugh.
Burnell passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 5 days.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley Huwe of Butler, SD; seven: children Teresa (Greg) Schock of Rapid City, SD, Elaine (Jeff) Monson of Goodlettsville, TN, Virginia “Gin” (Steve Rohde) Huwe of Rapid City, SD, Mavis (James III) McKane of Andover, SD, Duane Huwe of Butler, SD, and Dennis (Gail) Huwe of Bristol, SD; seven grandchildren: James IV (Ashley) McKane of Andover, SD, Justin (Diana) McKane of Brookings, SD, Miranda Huwe of Maricopa, AZ, Devon (Kim) Huwe of Bristol, SD, Alannah Schock of Rapid City, SD, Taylor Huwe of Worthington, MN, and Rylee Huwe of Bristol, SD; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, and son Darold and his wife Cindy Huwe.
