WEBSTER- Bessie Meuer, 92 of Webster died on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Bethesda Home in Webster.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster with burial in St. Ottos Cemetery.Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church until 8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Rosary. Bessie Anna Foster was born on Thursday, September 11, 1919 in a sod house to Carey and Minnie (Johnson) Foster in Zieback County, South Dakota near Glad Valley. The family moved to the Bristol area in 1921. She attended school in Valley Township District 148 and graduated from Bristol High School. After she received her education she worked in the Bristol area.She was united in marriage to Roy Meuer on June 15, 1939 at Webster. After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm seven miles northwest of Webster where they farmed for thirty four years. In 1973 they sold the farm and moved into Webster. They enjoyed traveling and made many bus trips around the country and they also loved trips to visit family and friends. The family fishing and camping trips were always a favorite Grandma Bessie always came with plenty of homemade cookies. Roy passed away on February 23, 1990. After his death she continued to travel with her family and sister, her trip to Hawaii with her son, Raymonds family was special to her. The last few years she has made her home at Heritage Village in Webster where she enjoyed good health until the last few weeks.She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society. She also belonged to Webster Senior Citizens and Golden Age Club where she was a volunteer. She loved to read and always had an exceptional memory for events and dates. She loved to cook and bake and was known for the wonderful meals she served and making a birthday cake for family was always a priority.Bessie passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 5 days.Survivors include two sons, Julian (Betty) Meuer of Webster, SD and Raymond (Carolyn) Meuer of Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren, Anne Marie (Chris) Dufex of Denver, CO, Connie (Daryl) Roos of Tulare, SD, Steve (Tana) Meuer of Helena, MT, Russ (Stacey) Meuer of Watertown, SD, Sheldon (Deb) Meuer of Post Falls, ID, Ian Elliott Meuer of Mason City, IA and Tiffany Meuer of Des Moines, IA; sixteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leona Meuer of Webster, SD; a brother-in-law, Justin Nilson of Webster, SD and a cousin, Elaine (Carlyle) Chamberlain of Bristol, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Mabel Esche, Lila Machmiller and Bernice Nilson.To the very end, Bessie remained alert and able to visit her family and grandchildren as they returned to Webster to be with her.
