Barbara Witte, 72 of Ortley died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Milbank Area Hospital in Milbank.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Fr. David Axtmann will celebrate the Mass.
Scriptural Wake service will be at 7 P.M. Friday at the church. There will be no visitation.
Born on February 21, 1941 to James and Laura (Duster) McCraney at Hill City, South Dakota. She was raised in and around the Black Hills. She was living and working in Rapid City when she met and married Raymond Joseph Witte of Orient, SD in 1960. They had four children; Daniel Joseph, Charles Lee, Beverly Ann, and David Raymond. They moved to Seattle, Washington in 1965 remaining there until retirement in 1998. They traveled the United States before settling in Ortley, South Dakota where they opened and worked a small café with her sister until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. She enjoyed traveling, painting pictures, sewing, collecting rocks, jewelry, antiques, volunteer work, and family.
She was a Past President of the Eagles Club Auxiliary 1, a life member of the V.F.W. Club and member of the Senior club in Ortley.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Ortley, SD; her children, Daniel Witte of Seattle, WA, Beverly Witte of Seattle, WA and David Witte of Webster, SD; one brother Tom (Sandra) McCraney of Kennewick, WA; three sisters, Janice (Willis) Palmer of Ortley, SD, Ila Mae (John) Lutheran of Grand Forks, ND and Doris (Bob) Ashley of Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and three brothers.
