WEBSTER- Arlene Mathiason, 77 of Bristol and formally of Webster died on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Tuesday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Wednesday. Arlene Jean Bury was born on Monday, March 9, 1931 to Art and Amanda (Flatttum) Bury on her parents farm in Union Township, Day County, South Dakota near Butler. She was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church near Butler and later confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She attended Union Prairie School District 181 country school near her home and graduated from Bristol High School in 1951. On January 12, 1951 she married Harvey Mathiason at the American Lutheran Church in Webster. The couple spent the next two years in Wisconsin and Alabama while her husband was in the Army. After his discharge they returned to his parents farm in 1953. They farmed until 1974 when he had to quit because of health problems. She worked at Bain’s Café and the Klein Hotel for eighteen years, retiring because of health problems. Mr. Mathiason passed away in 1985 and she moved in with her mother in Webster and then later to Pleasant View Apartments. She entered Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in 1996. She was a long-time member of American Lutheran Church in Webster. She liked to cook, bake, write poetry and do puzzles. She enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arlene passed away on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 77 years, two months and 14 days. Arlene is survived by two daughters, Diane Mathiason of Webster, SD and Marilyn (David) Hormann of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Duane (Phyllis) Bury of Spearfish, SD and David (Gert) Bury of Marysville, WA; a sister-in-law, Joan Mathiason of Aberdeen, SD; two brothers-in-law, Gene Mathiason of Zimmerman, MN and Marvin (Clarice) Mathiason of Webster, SD; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Irene Peterson, a son-in-law, Dean Robinson and a granddaughter, Janel Robinson.
