Arlene Carlson

ABERDEEN- Arlene Carlson 80 of Aberdeen and formally of Roslyn died on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at ManorCare in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Monday. Arlene Marcella Rovang was born on Wednesday, January 20, 1926 to Elmer and Elma (Rubel) Rovang at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They lived at Elizabeth, Minnesota for a short time before the family moved to Roslyn, South Dakota in 1938. She was confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church and attended school in Roslyn. During World War II she lived in Minneapolis and Chicago where she was employed at various jobs. After the war she returned to Roslyn. On June 29, 1948 she married Vernie Carlson at Aberdeen, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home just west of the city limits of Roslyn. She worked at the grocery store and Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest home for many years until her retirement in 1988. After retirement she did babysitting in her home. Mr. Carlson passed away in 1996. After his death she continued to live in her home until 1997 when she moved to Aberdeen. She entered Manorcare Healthcare in Aberdeen in March 2006. She was a member of Fron Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aide and Circle. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, bowling and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She also embroidered, enjoyed country western music and visiting with friends and relatives. Arlene passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 22 days. Survivors include one son, Roger (Kathy) Carlson of Jamestown, ND; one brother, Wes (Charlotte) Rovang of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters, Thelma Monshaugen of Webster, SD and LaVonne (Harold) Peterson of Aberdeen, SD; two grandchildren, Nicole (Richard) Reis and Aaron Carlson; and two great grandchildren, Isaiah and Levi. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Donald and one sister, Winnifred Opsahl.
