Arlen Grorud, 74 of Roslyn died Wednesday March 16, 2011 at his home.
His funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Monday March 28, 2011 at Fron Lutheran Church, Janet Johnson will officiate. Spring burial will be in the Fron Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2- 4 P.M. Sunday March 27, 2011 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.
Arlen Robert Grorud was born on February 23, 1937 to Arnold and Ruth (Kleven) Grorud at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized at the Webster Peabody Hospital and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church, near Roslyn, South Dakota. He attended rural country school and later Roslyn High School. After his education, Arlen worked as a farm hand for the Fagerland and Vehe brothers for several years. He then returned to his parents farm and continued farming with his family.
In 1973, Arlen moved to Roslyn and worked at Lyle Huggetts Phillips 66 gas station, until its closing in 1988. He then worked for the city of Roslyn until his health forced him into retirement.
Arlen was a member of Fron Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and various other committees over the years. He also was a member of Oden Sons of Norway Lodge in Webster, South Dakota. The early morning coffee group and spending time at Roslyns Community Oil were special highlights in Arlens day.
Arlen passed away Wednesday March 16, 2011 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 74 years and 21 days.
He is survived by his brother, Garry (Marge) Grorud of Lake Poinsett, SD, two nieces, Shaun (Todd) Haaseth of Brookings, SD, Stacey (Kurt) McLey of Kansas City, MO, great-nephews and nieces, Dana, Kyle Brock, Alexa, Mia, and Ike. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
The family prefers any memorials be directed to Fron Lutheran Church 125th Anniversary Fund.
