WAUBAY Arleen Long 85 of Bristol and formerly of Waubay died Sunday October 17, 2010 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 22, 2010 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay.

Arleen June Painter was born on Monday, June 29, 1925 to Jesse and Hulda (Pries) Painter on the family farm near Waubay, South Dakota. She attended Sunday School at the Waubay Christian and Missonary Alliance Church in Waubay and was later baptized as an adult at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She attended Waubay Public School and High School and then lived in California during World War II and was employed as a welder. After the War she returned to Waubay.
On July 6, 1945 she was united in marriage to Glenn Long at Waubay. After their marriage the couple operated Longs Resort on Enemy Swim Lake during the spring, summer and fall and then lived in the southwest part of the state at Lake Creek Refuge during the winter months where Mr. Long was the state trapper. In 1948 they moved to Oregon and then returned in 1953 to a farm near Rush Lake, near Waubay where they lived until March 1995 when they moved into Waubay. Mr. Long passed away in April 1995, and after his death she continued to live in Waubay until she entered Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in December 2005.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay where she belonged to W.E.L.C.A. She loved reading, crosswords, sewing and caring for babies. During the holidays she provided hospitality for elderly shut-ins. Most of all she enjoyed her family.
Arleen passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Survivors include one son, Jon Long of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Pam (David) Engstrom of Waubay, SD and Glenda (Larry) Jerde of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, one daughter and one granddaughter.
