Tony Lewandowski, 68, of Grenville died on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Strand-Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church until 8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Rosary.
Anthony Tony Roman Lewandowski was born on Tuesday, January 19, 1943 to Joseph and Agnes (Block) Lewandowski at Waubay, South Dakota. The family lived on a farm east of Grenville near Pickerel Lake. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville and he attended country school near his home. After he received his education he farmed near Pickerel Lake. He moved to Rapid City where he was engaged in carpentry work and bartending.
On August 24, 1963 he married Sharon Johnson, to this union four children were born. The couple moved to Rosemont, Minnesota where he was employed at the Thermo King Co. They returned to the Grenville area in 1968 where he operated a resort on Pickerel Lake. In 1979 he sold the resort and worked various bartending jobs in the area. He married Donna Anderson on October 15, 1988 at Webster. The couple continued to live in Grenville. He retired in 2000 because of health problems.
He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with family and friends. He liked taking his dog, Sparky, for rides and he enjoyed making people laugh.
Tony passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Melissa) Lewandowski of Rapid City, SD and Greg Lewandowski of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Kelly (Don) VanWinkle of Marengo, IL and Staci (Darin) Rumpza of Waubay, SD; his mother, Agnes Lewandowski of Roslyn, SD; five brothers, Edwin (Dorothy) Lewandowski of Webster, SD, Donald (Genevieve) Lewandowski of Grenville, SD, Kenny (Claudia) Lewandowski of New Ulm, MN, Dennis (Letha) Lewandowski of Webster, SD and Eugene (Lola) Lewandowski of Forman, ND; three sisters, Arlene Samson of Hartley, IA, Marilyn Miotke of Grenville, SD and Collette (Lyle) Carlson of Webster, SD; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and two grandchildren.
