WEBSTER – Alvina Jeske 99 of Webster passed away Thursday January 17, 2019 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Alvina Jeske 99 of Webster passed away Thursday January 17, 2019 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Mike DeKraai will officiate. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Alvina Clarice Strommen was born on November 6, 1919 to Sivert and Minnie (Monson) Strommen on the family farm near Lily, SD. She was baptized at the family farm and confirmed in Lily. She attended country grade school and graduated from Lily High School in 1939. After graduation she worked for a neighboring family helping care for their 12 children and also worked in a café in Webster. On April 6, 1941 she was united in marriage to Milton Jeske at Lily Lutheran Church. The couple had two sons, John and Dennis. The family made their home in Morton Township, southeast of Webster. Alvina worked alongside Milton on the farm for many years. She also worked at the County Farm Nursing facility caring for the elderly. In 1972 she took employment at Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster where she worked until her retirement in the late 1990’s. In 1975 the couple moved to Webster. Milton passed away in 1999. Alvina continued to stay in Webster and moved to Heritage Village in the fall of 2005 and then to Bethesda Nursing Home in 2012. She was very active in church activities at St. John’s including Ladies Aid, Circle, bible studies, prayer groups, and quilting. She volunteered for RSVP and was a member of the Golden Age. Alvina had a spunky personality and had a real zest for living. She was the heart of family gatherings for most of her life and the reason for many family gatherings in her later years. She immensely enjoyed going places and driving her car. Alvina was very active throughout her years. She had great love for her family and was loved by so many beyond her family. The Lord called Alvina home on Thursday January 17, 2019 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 99 years, 2 months, and 11 days. She will be greatly missed by her 2 sons;, Dennis (Nancy) Jeske of Rochester, MN and John (Paulette) Jeske of Webster, SD; 1 sister, Delores (Glenn) Gulsvig of Bloomington, MN; 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Ivan (Norma) Strommen and sister, Gladys (Wesley) Jeske.
